Title: Classroom Management Plan
Date: 12/3/2013
Artifact Description:
My artifact for this experience is my classroom management plan that I created throughout my student teaching experience. My classroom management plan explains my style of teaching along with rules and expectations. My plan introduces the BEE Binder, an organization tool for students and parents. Behavior management, attention grabbers, and voice volume are also in my classroom management plan.
Alignment:
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
I believe my classroom management plan best aligns with standard five of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: “The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.” My classroom management plan aligns with standard five because it is evidence that I know how to create an interactive learning environment for individual and group based learning. The prize box encourages positive social interaction, responsibility, and respect. The BEE Binder motivates students to be organized, aware, and independent. The behavior chart the goes home every day supports a positive respectful classroom. A Classroom job for all students teaches self-motivation and prepares students for the working world as they get older.
UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition Statement Alignment
I believe my classroom management plan best aligns with KSD2.c. of the UWP School of Education Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition statements which states: “The candidate values and has the ability to manage self-motivated students and instructional groups who are productively and independently working at all times with classroom transitions and routines occurring smoothly. The teacher, volunteers, paraprofessionals and students share the responsibility for the classroom environment.” My classroom management plan is evidence that I value an independent organized classroom environment. The attention grabbers help students smoothly transition from one activity to the next. My classroom management plan provides students with independence, discipline, praise, and support which all students deserve.
Secondary Alignment:
KSD2.d: Manages Student Behavior
KS2.e: Organizes Physical Space
KSD4.f: Shows Professionalism
Reflection
What I learned about teaching/learning:
I learned that having a classroom management plan gives the classroom and students structure. Students benefit from knowing what to expect on a daily basis and in turn will respect you as the teacher. I learned to allow students to be active participants in choosing what they learn because it creates a constructivist approach to learning which I feel is essential.
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator:
I learned that not everything is always set in stone. There were many occasions when I changed my plan because something didn’t work or contrast well to a constructivist approach to learning. I need to be willing to make changes to best support my students in the classroom.
