Philosophy of Education
In our society people learn everyday whether it’s at school, in the work place or in the reality of life. Learning means to obtain new information that you did not once know. The information may be relevant to you or it may not be, but it takes place every day whether we are aware of it or not. Learning can be exciting and eye opening at the same time. A child learning how to tie their shoes or ride a bike is exciting for them because it gives them independence and allows them to engage in an activity. As a young adult learning how to balance your checkbook or pay bills may not be exciting, but it’s necessary and is something that you will do the rest of your life. Being aware and conscious to what we are learning is important so we are able to use it in the future if need be. I want to be a teacher because every child deserves to learn and to feel pride in getting an A on a test or making the honor role. I believe education is a lifelong process in which we are never done learning.

I have decided to become a teacher for these reasons:
Education is instilled in all of us in one way or another. We all learn new things everyday that helps us through life. I feel that my philosophy of education is to be aware of our surroundings and always be eager to learn. Learning new things in life whether we realize it or not makes us who we are.
The purpose of education is:
- To teach students the core subjects of a curriculum so they can read and write along with understanding mathematics, science, and the history of the world.
- To give people the ample opportunity to have success in their life.
- To give people confidence in themselves by giving them the opportunity to have success whether it’s through school or a job that supports them.
- To give students the ability to make their own decisions in life and to learn from their mistakes.
The role of the student in education is:
- The student must be willing to learn and to trust their teachers, parents, and mentors.
- Students must respect their elders, not only their teachers but people who they look up to and learn from.
- Learning happens every day so students should be aware of the little things in life and look at them in the big picture.
The role of the teacher in education:
- The teacher must create an environment that promotes learning in their classroom.
- A teacher must not limit the students to one style of learning; they should encourage unique thinking and inventive strategies.
- Teachers should be a mentor to their students and someone a student can trust to confide in.
- Teachers should demonstrate discipline and respect because I strongly feel that will take a person a long way in life.
The role of the teacher in the community:
- The teacher should realize that their actions in school will be seen out in the community by parents, residents, and colleagues.
- Teachers should take an active role in the community by getting to know the local business owners and help organize extracurricular activities for the students.
- Teachers should work with the parents and get to know them and update them about their child’s progress in their class.
- A teacher should take an interest in the sporting teams and extracurricular activities and encourage students to go out for sports and extracurricular activities.
I have decided to become a teacher for these reasons:
- To work with children and watch their eyes light up when they understand what I have been teaching them.
- To teach students that life is not always easy and working through it makes you a stronger person.
- To teach students to never give up because with hard work and determination anything is possible.
- To make a difference in a student’s life for the better and I hope they learn things from me that they use as adults.
